A close friend plays double bass in the ensemble, so the concert caught my interest. After securing photo permission in advance, I went to enjoy the performance and capture a few images along the way.
Three of us — my friend Tae-hwan from the neighborhood, his wife, and I — chatted all the way from Seogwipo to Wolpyeong-dong in Jeju City. Even the long drive felt good.
Hoeun Art Center looked smaller than I expected from the outside, yet stepping inside it felt strangely intimate and warm.
Odd, isn’t it? Small venues often feel cramped first — but not this one…
Anyway, I greeted my bassist friend and settled in to listen.
It was wonderful. Truly. I was so happy.
As pianist Kim Se-woon described, the music lives somewhere between classical, jazz, and folk — and that balance was breathtaking tonight.
On the drive home we weren’t sad it was over; we were still lit up, talking over the concert with excited voices filling the car.
I wanted to leave a few lines from that ride home, and share some photographs.
For a brief moment, spring and autumn seemed to sit beside every heart,
then winter stepped forward with only an empty place left behind.
On the road back to Seogwipo through thick fog, as if wearing misty goggles,
red and blue fog lights danced like musical notes,
as though reminding us not to lose our way.
